With Zerrick Cooper already in place as Clemson’s 2016 quarterback addition, the focus is on the 2017 class.
Among the candidates on the radar is Jason Brown, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect from Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, who was on campus earlier this month for Junior Day.
“I liked it. I liked the atmosphere of it. I liked their stadium. I liked everything about
it. That was, by far, my favorite visit that I’ve been on so far,” Brown told TheClemsonInsider.
During the visit, he met quarterbacks Brandon Streeter.
“(Streeter) basically just told me to go to the camp this summer, so he can see what I can do. He said that he was going to watch my film…he told me that he was going to evaluate me,” Brown said.
He added, “To my coach that was there, he told me to work on my footwork for this summer, incase it’s not what he’s expecting. So I’m going to be working on that, so I’ll be good to go with that.”
Brown got the invite to Clemson earlier this year when Brent Venables stopped by the school during the January evaluation period.
“He came down and invited me, one of our linemen, George Brown, another one, Yetur Matos, and a wide receiver, E.J. Jenkins,” Brown said.
All of the prospects made it down for the Junior Day.
“I really like how supportive all the fans are, because (Junior Day) was Youth Day, so
there were a lot of kids and a lot of parents there, so I know that their fan-base is
really good,” Brown said. “I really like how they have the indoor practice facility there and they have the graveyard where the put all the tombstones on it of the top 25 teams that they’ve beaten.
“They have a really nice indoor facility as well. I really like all the coaches I
talked to. I talked to coach Venables, coach (Dabo) Swinney and coach Streeter. They were all really nice and they told me to come down for camp in the summer, so I’m going to do that.”
Later this month, Brown will head to Penn State. He’ll stop by Virginia Tech in April. N.C. State and Duke also hosted him for visits this year.
As a sophomore, Brown passed for 1,635 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 516 yards and six touchdowns.
