The last week of spring practice is perhaps one of the most important ones of the year for any football team. This is the last week when the coaches get the opportunity to coach their players on what they need to be doing during the long summer break as well as an opportunity to see if everything they have been teaching the last six weeks will carry over.
“Really, you are going to remember the last week,” Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott.
This is the last week the Tigers have to fix what they have not done well in the previous two scrimmages, while also gaining some confidence at the same time.
On offense, Clemson has not done a good job finishing drives, in short yardage plays or red zone situations.
“Spring practice is about breaking it down to the very minute details of each position,” Scott said. “What we are trying to do here in the last week is really bring it all together and see the progress that we have made and see how it all comes together.”
That’s what was exciting about Monday because those things the Clemson offense have not done well, got better during the squad’s mini-scrimmage. The offense moved the football well and had sustained success in certain situations.
“We had some success in some situations where the last two scrimmages we have not done a great job,” Scott said. “Seeing it all come together and mesh as a group, gives us confidence coming out of spring, going into the summer, August, two-a-days and all of those types of things.
“This is a critical week. This is what we will remember about spring ball. It’s not about what happened in the first week, the first scrimmage and everything. We will remember what happened in that last week and what that final product looked like before we go into the next phase.”
