BUFORD, Ga. – Jamyest Williams, one of the top athletes in the class of 2017, visited Clemson twice last fall.
First, for the Louisville game, and again for the South Carolina game.
“It’s a great atmosphere,” Williams said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider, before The Opening event in Atlanta.
“I really don’t have a favorite school right now, so I’m just taking the process slow,” he said. “It’s a great school, a really great atmosphere. The fan-base is crazy.
“The coaches are really caring, but hardcore coaches. They want to build a relationship with you and your family.”
Clemson, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan and South Carolina are among the offers for the 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect Lawrenceville-Archer (Georgia).
So far this year, Williams has visited Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Michigan and Michigan State. A return trip to Clemson hasn’t been scheduled.
“I talk to coach (Tony) Elliott and coach (Mike) Reed a lot. I’m trying to get down to Clemson and see how I like it down there some more,” Williams said.
Williams, who was invited to The Opening after being named the best defensive back at the Atlanta camp, has yet to make a firm decision on which position he wants to play in college. Neither has Clemson.
“They kind of asked me what I want to play. Right now, they like me as an athlete,” Williams said.
But he is leaning towards one side of the ball.
“Right now, DB, because I think I’m a dominant DB. I don’t think anybody can beat me. I just feel like I’m dominant,” Williams said.
