Tiger fans, you shouldn't really get down on your football coach and program. It takes time to develop new talent and install new schemes. I for one am bolstered by the inspiring performance Your Fighting Clemson Tigers exhibited against arch-rival and nationally-known powerhouse Wofford College last Saturday. IMO, it's only a matter of time before you are once again ready to welcome North Texas and Presbyterian back to Death Valley, and REALLY show them how far you've come as a program!!!
Let's all say it together, now:
Da-BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Um, yeah. We played them in 2008. That year the USC offense was the 2nd-worst Steve Spurrier-led offense statistically for his entire storied career (the worst: 2009). We had Chris Smelley and Tommy Beecher for our QBs, for crying out loud. We had Mike Davis and Brian Maddox as our top RBs. And we had one single dependable receiver in Kenny McKinley.
The previous season, our rush defense finished 12th in the SEC and 110th in the nation, allowing 209 rushing yds per game. Tyrone Nix was forced out over it, and Ellis Johnson was our new DC in '08...
Wofford came into our game that year the defending Southern Conference Champions and ranked 11th in the nation for the FCS level. They came in after 2 games with the nation's top FCS rushing offense averaging 400 per game, and 2nd nationally in total offense at 512 yards per game. They would finish their 2008 season 2nd nationally in rushing offense (309.7 ypg) and 15th in total offense (427.6 ypg).
We beat them 23-13, holding the Terriers to 185 rushing yards and 285 total yards for the game. Wofford had two busted-plays for them that gave them a 50-yard QB keeper that scored them their sole TD, and a 52-yd pass play past our CB that bit too hard on a fake that resulted in a FG. Minus those two poorly defended plays, we held Wofford to 135 rushing yards, 183 total yards and only 3 points. We had 30 first downs compared to only 14 for the Terriers, and won the possession battle 31:07 to 28:53.
Clemson "held" Wofford to 272 rushing yards and 399 total offensive yards. CU had 20 1st downs to Wofford's 16, and was on the short end of the possession battle 26:33 to 33.27. The Terriers converted all 3 of their red-zone opportunities compared to the Tigers being successful on only 2 of their 4. The Wofford DL pushed and manhandled the Tiger OL all game long, sacking Boyd 4 times, compared to zero sacks of Wofford QBs by Clemson...

Barely beating lower level schools is something kinda new for clemson this year not for yall tho. 23-13 last time yall played wofford and you destroyed them 27-20 in 2006. In 2007 you put a hellacious whoopin on Louisiana-Laffayette 28-14. In 2008 you beat down uab 26-13. And then 2010 you struggled with furman until you pulled away in the 4th quarter 38-19. I dont wanna hear anything about playing lower level teams close.
And you wanna play the what if game, if our true freshman safety didnt bite on a play fake we wouldnt have given up a 66 yard td pass, or if our linebacker didnt over-pursue the option we wouldnt have given up a 26 yard td run. I can keep goin and eventually we would have won 35-0. But the the big plays count so no reason in playing what if.

But USC fans knew our '08 team was going to be a poor one. Spurrier gave us some premature excitement in '07 by proclaiming that team was ready to compete for the SEC, but by the end of that season we learned our painful lesson. For '08, we needed desperately for a LOT of players to step up, before feeling like we'd be able to accomplish anything.
Clemson fans (especially you guys here) are proclaiming 9, 10 wins for this season, and competing for the ACCCG. Despite our close win over Wofford in '06, guess what: we never trailed the Terriers in that game. Our defense was made up of freshman and players who never started a game before: only Fred Bennett was a starter for us in '06, who had started a game prior to that season. Our rush defense was very poor that year, and yet we still were up on Wofford 27-10 halfway through the 4th quarter. They score a quick TD and FG to make it close in the end, and our defense was dog tired.
Wofford was LEADING halfway through the 3rd qtr. against you guys last week. Wofford does not have the same team they had against us in '08. They probably don't have the team they had against us in '06, either....

Why are you on a Clemson site? Is it because you really want to be a C.U. fan? You know that your gamecocks suck so you want to come to a good program. YOU SUCK BIG TIME!

Blah, Blah, Blah!!!! That is all I ever hear from your posts!
I do seem to remember a certain Citadel game in 1990. Oh, I forgot that is in the past and you don't give any credit to the past.

Well, really the past has very little to do with this thread topic. I must admit that I have posted on past USC games, but that was only in response to others. But this thread topic was intended to focus on Clemson's game performances THIS season, compared with the Clemson fanbase's expectations for their team THIS season. But of course, the only responses I seem to receive from CU fans here involve USC games during seasons that happened years ago. I guess it's typical....

You better hide that notice....cause if it's true, then it's not an impermissible benefit.....
