View Full Version : Furman vs. Clemson 0-0 in third

Folks: We're scoreless here in the top of the third at Doug Kingsmore. Rumors about Zamboni being brought in from Pavillion Ice Rink in Greenville funny, but not true.
That's right, we're playing. Grounds crew was out early scraping ice and snow from the outfield, which was already sloppy from the weekend's rain. Clemson baseball SID Brian Hennessey estimated about four inches of snow.
Anyway, first six Furman hitters retired by Clemson' Chris Dwyer, who struck out side in first. Right-hander Ian Perry going for Furman, also six up and six down.
Chris Epps in lineup today for Tigers batting seventh at DH. Phil Pohl doing the catching, hitting eighth.
Back in a few innings or when something big happens. ....

I've never seen him play, but I think Dwyer is going to be a stud

Chris Dwyer 12 up and 12 down (shhh) on the hill for Tigers with 3 strikeouts.
Yeah, he looks like a stud.

You got your deuce, TigerPappy. Freshman shortstop Brad Miller looped a two-out single to center in the fourth, scoring Mike Freeman and Ben Paulsen.
Furman's Ian Parry left after Freeman and Paulsen reached.
Robert, c'mon. I thought I was showing discretion with the shhh about Dwyer. I don't think Coach Leggett will let Dwyer go nine anyway.
UPDATE: Dwyer hit Reese Wade with a pitch with one out in fifth. No perfecto.

Chris Dwyer left after five innings. His line: 0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 1 HP
Right-hander Scott Weismann in relief, gives up BB but no runs in sixth.
2-0 Clemson bottom sixth

Weismann hasn't allowed a hit either in two innings.
Furman got its first runner to second after a HP in the top of the seventh.
Sorry, I forgot your question, TigerPappy. Ron Scarborough left in the fifth without leaving us any of his chicken sandwiches and shakes.
Though he didn't eat any of the pizza here, he did ask about 10 times when the meal line started at Littlejohn. He's probably eating over there right now.
I'm staying to see what happens here before going to Littlejohn.

Freshman shortshop Brad Miller saved the no-hit bid in the eighth with a diving grab and quick throw on grounder hit by lefty Campbell Lewis just to the third-base side of second base.
Left-hander Will Lamb set down Furman in order in the inning.
CLEMSON 2, FURMAN 0 (bottom eighth)
ONE FURMAN AT-BAT REMAINING
We've have quotes from players and Coach Leggett after the game.

Ryan Hinson pitched the ninth for the Tigers. He struck out Will Miller , Marcus Rose grounded to third.
One strike from no-hitter, Connor Lind beat out hopper off the plate fielded by Sanders at third. Brian Harrison ripped a homer to left-center.

Tigers down in order in ninth. I'll miss tip-off.
Well-played game, though.

Bottom of the order for Tigers. Wouldn't want to lose this one.

Clemson had chance to win in 10th. Addison Johnson popped up with PR Stolz at second and two out. Miller had two-out hit.
Hinson still pitching for Tigers.

Wonder why the Tigers are making things difficult these last two games. Furman should be a good opponent...but they shouldnt ahve anything on us. I thought the offense was going to be a strong suit this year....not looking that way.

Tigers had a leadoff runner in 11th, but bunted into DP.

Still tied. Sanders flied out to right with Schaus on second and two outs in the 12th.
Reliever Tomas Cruz sharp for the Tigers.

Tiger offense hasn't been great. Lot of guys back with good batting averages, but not much HR pop other than Parker. Schaus and Parker off to slow starts -- it's early. Boyd not in lineup today because he's sick.
On the bright side, the pitching has been very good.

Miller at SS failed to turn DP when ball dropped out of his glove before he could make relay with bases loaded, one out and game tied.
Furman got two in the 14th -- second on first solid hit of the game off Cruz, who pitched well.
Tigers have middle of the order up.

We are about to lose to this bad team because our tigers like last year suck on offense. Damn.

Tough game to lose. Schaus led off 14th with walk, Pohl walked with two outs, putting Stolz at bat as winning run. But Stolz struck out swinging against freshman lefthander Kevin Gottlieb to end game
Try against Wednesday against UNC Asheville.
Skipping the postgame to get over to Littlejohn.

I dont understand what the deal is with having your clean-up hitter bunting and sacrificing over runners. This guy is supposed to be THE guy on the team. He certainly is not off to a great start this year. Is there a confidence issue with him or in him?
