48 Student-Athletes Graduate

By Staff Report.

Clemson, SC—Forty-eight Clemson student-athletes earned academic degrees over the course of three graduation ceremonies at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday.  The list of graduates included seven football student-athletes who will be members of the team this fall.  Four seniors from Clemson’s women’s track program that has won eight consecutive ACC track championships also graduated.

Overall, nine current or former Clemson football players earned degrees on Friday.  Brandon Thomas (Secondary Education) and Chandler Catanzaro (Biological Sciences) both earned All-ACC honors on the field this past fall and will be leaders of Clemson’s 2013 team.  Other Tiger football players who will be on the field this fall with a degree on their resume are Phillip Fajgenbaum, Rod McDowell, Donny McElveen, Spencer Shuey, and Darrell Smith.

The list of graduates on Friday also included NFL player Jamie Harper, who turned professional after his junior year in the fall of 2010, but came back to earn his degree.

Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney has had 72 senior lettermen in his four full seasons as head coach and 65 of those players have graduated, 90.3 percent.  The seven who have not are all on NFL rosters at this time.  All 13 seniors on the 2012 team have graduated with Clemson diplomas.

Both seniors on Brad Brownell’s basketball team, Devin Booker and Milton Jennings,  earned diplomas in the facility they played in for the last four years.  Booker joined his brother, Trevor, as Clemson graduates.  Nine of 10 seniors under Brownell over the last three years have earned their degrees.

Five members of the Clemson baseball team graduated on Friday before playing a game against Georgia Southern at night.  Those five are Thomas Brittle, Scott Firth, Mike Kent, Jonathan Meyer and Joseph Moorefield.  Former Tigers Brad Chalk and Stephen Faris also earned diplomas.

The four seniors from the women’s track program who earned degrees on Friday were Kate Borowiz (Health Science), Jasmine Edgerson (Sociology), Stormy Kendrick (Sociology) and Brittney Waller (Agricultural Education).  Kendrick and Waller were both indoor track All-Americans earlier this semester, while Edgerson is a four-time Clemson All-American in relay events.

Two Clemson volleyball athletes also graduated on Friday, including  Sandra Adeleye, the only four-time first-team All-ACC volleyball player in Clemson history.  She was joined crossing the stage by teammate Serenat Yaz.

Seven members of the Clemson rowing team that will play host to the ACC Championships on Sunday graduated on Friday.  Those athletes are Ameerah Aly (Health Science), Kate Biladeau (Marketing), Katie Bruggeling (Sociology), Brittney Burns (PRTM), Marrisa Henry (Language and International Trade), Emily Massey (Communication Studies), and Caroline Thomas (Psychology).
