DURHAM — Here is a look at the action on Day Four of the ACC Baseball Championships at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park:
Virginia 7, Florida State 4 (12 innings)
Virginia third baseman Kenny Towns scored the game-tying run in the eighth inning and followed with a walk-off, three-run homer in the 12th inning to send the Cavaliers to a 7-4 win over Florida State. It was the seventh straight loss at the ACC Baseball Championship for the Seminoles and second loss in this tournament to a walk-off homer. The game did have a unique aspect in that the final pitcher for both teams started the game as position players (Jameis Winston – RF for Florida State and Nick Howard – SS for Virginia).
Miami (FL) 7, Clemson 0
Miami (FL), playing without head coach Jim Morris (illness), scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 7-0 win over Clemson on Saturday afternoon. Hurricane starter Bryan Radziewski pitched 8.0 scoreless innings of four-hit ball and every Miami (FL) starter had a hit. Steven Duggar led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double.
North Carolina 2, NC State 1 (18 innings)
North Carolina scored a run in the top of the 18th inning to take a 2-1 marathon game from NC State and advance to the Championship Game on Sunday against Virginia Tech. NC State had a chance in the 18th inning as Brett Williams led off the frame with a double and moved to third base on a wild pitch, but the Wolfpack were unable to bring him in. NC State starter Carlos Rodon was superb, allowing just one unearned run on one hit with 14 strikeouts in 10.0 innings. The 18 innings also set an ACC Baseball Championship record for longest game.
