DURHAM— A look back at Clemson’s 7-0 loss to Miami (FL) on Saturday afternoon in the ACC Baseball Championship at Durham Bulls Athletic Park:

What happened?

Miami (FL) scored two first inning runs and that was all the support that starting pitcher Bryan Radziewski needed as the Hurricanes coasted to a 7-0 win over Clemson at the ACC Baseball Championship on Saturday. The loss dropped Clemson to 0-3 in the tournament and 39-20 on the season.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game-changing moment came early in the game in the top of the first inning. After two outs, Clemson starter Clate Schmidt walked Chantz Mack and hit David Thompson to put two runners on base. Hurricane designated hitter Brad Fieger followed with a double to left to score both runners and give Miami (FL) an early 2-0 lead before the Tigers even had a chance to come to bat.

Story Line:

Miami (FL) scored two early runs and Hurricane starter Radziewski pitched 8.0 scoreless innings to lead Miami (FL) to a 7-0 win over Clemson in the ACC Baseball Championship. The Tigers hit into three double plays as two Hurricane pitchers combined to face just three batters over the minimum.

What went right?

Honestly, not much as the Tigers could never get anything going in the game. One of the bright spots was Steven Duggar, who had two of Clemson’s four hits in the game.

What went wrong?

The Tigers got into an early hole and could just never recover. Despite getting the leadoff runner on in each of the first three innings, a caught stealing and two double plays ended each threat. Although everyone said otherwise, it seemed as if the loss to North Carolina took a lot out of the team as they struggled throughout the day to get anything going on offense.

They said it:

Clemson Head Coach Jack Leggett:

“We couldn’t get anything going offensively today. It was obvious their kid pitched a really good ballgame again. He kind of did the same thing to us the last time we were in Miami. We didn’t get off to a good start. We didn’t pitch well early and we got behind the eight ball and we turned over three double play balls. We just couldn’t get anything going on offense and that was the story of the day.”

Clemson catcher Garrett Boulware:

“We trained all fall and we play every day and we knew we had a game today to win. We didn’t play well but we put last night behind but we couldn’t get anything going today.”
