Qualkinbush joins TCI staff

The Clemson Insider.com is pleased to announce that William Qualkinbush will be joining our staff on July 1.

Qualkinbush, who will help as a writer and with videos, comes to The Clemson Insider after a six-year stint as a freelance writer in college, where he attended Clemson University. The Clemson graduate has written for IPTAY Media the past three years, producing content on every athletic program on campus.

“I am thrilled to have Q join the staff at TCI. Q bleeds orange and loves his Tigers,” said The Clemson Insider owner and publisher Robert MacRae. He is an excellent writer and his many talents are amazing, especially for someone his age. Q will use the TCI platform to share his thoughts on many topics in his new blog. The addition of Q will allow us to continue to provide the best coverage of Clemson athletics found anywhere.”

Qualkinbush has also covered high school and Clemson sports for The Daily Journal in Seneca, SC since 2007.

“Q comes to us with a lot of experience as a writer,” said The Clemson Insider’s editor and senior writer Will Vandervort. “He has worked for me at both Seneca and when I was at IPTAY Media and he has always done a fantastic job.

“He brings a lot to the table for us as both a writer and as a broadcaster. He will allow us to do a lot of different things with the site that we have not been able to do here in the past.”

Qualkinbush is also involved with WCCP-FM 104.9 in Clemson – the university’s flagship station for Clemson Athletics. He is also the producer and co-host for The Mickey Plyler Show, which airs from 6-9 on weekday mornings, and the host of Qualk Talk, which airs from 10-noon on Saturdays.

In addition, Qualkinbush spent six years as a student assistant and graduate assistant in the Clemson Sports Information Department, where he developed relationships with many coaches and student-athletes. He also does public address work for the Clemson baseball team and has filled PA roles in the Clemson area in a variety of capacities for several years.

“I am thrilled to join the staff at The Clemson Insider,” he said. “After talking with Robert MacRae, spending some time in prayer, and consulting with people I trust, I knew this would be an excellent opportunity for me to grow professionally and to be a part of a team of writers that is committed to being the best when it comes to covering Clemson athletics.”

A fixture in the Clemson community, Qualkinbush has lived in the Clemson area since 2000. He has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a master’s degree in Professional Communication from Clemson University, which he completed in May.

“I feel that I can provide a unique perspective and mindset that will enhance a website that already includes some of the top writers covering Clemson athletics,” Qualkinbush said. “I consider it a great blessing to become a part of this family and I’m eager to get started.”

Qualkinbush’s father, Tony, is a minister and his mother, Lee Ann, is a high school math teacher at nearby Daniel High School. He has one brother—Benjamin (22), a former baseball player at Charleston Southern—and two sisters—Anna (20) and Elizabeth (18)—who both attend Clemson University.
