One of the defensive backs that Mike Reed plans on adding to his position group next fall has received interest from the team that handed Clemson its first loss in 2014.
Juwuan Briscoe, the four-star prospect (ESPN – ATH) from Stone High School in Waldorf, Maryland, has been committed to Clemson since May.
“I hear from Georgia every now and then. They’ve been sending me mail. The defensive coordinator is trying to talk to me, but that’s about it,” Briscoe told TheClemsonInsider.
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect remains firm with his commitment to Clemson and has not spoken with Jeremy Pruitt, who’s in his first-year as an assistant at Georgia.
Briscoe’s strong relationship with Reed plays a big part in the pledge to Clemson.
“Really, he’s just like a father role,” Briscoe said. “He gives me advice whenever I’m having trouble. He tells me to keep my head up…he’s just been there.”
And, despite the season opening loss in Athens, Briscoe thinks the Tigers will do big things in 2014.
“I think they’re going to do very well,” he said. “After last year, Sammy (Watkins) and Tajh (Boyd) are gone, but I think they’re going to be pretty good. They’re going to step up and get the job done.”
Briscoe will be in the mix by this time next year.
“I’m just looking forward to coming into the environment and getting the feel for college ball. I’m just going to work hard and let the rest take care of itself,” he said.
This fall, Briscoe will play running back, safety and cornerback for the Cougars. He’ll arrive to Tigertown as a cornerback.
“I’m not looking for any stats,” he said of his senior season. “I just want to get my team to a championship and win.”
According to Scout, Rivals and 247, Briscoe is a three-star prospect. Among the cornerbacks in the class of 2015, the three services rank him at 57, 62 and 37, respectively.
