SPARTANBURG – Noah Green has a pretty important job for the Shrine Bowl.
The three-star offensive lineman from Boiling Spring is the starting left tackle for the South Carolina squad in this year’s game, so he’ll be protecting the blindside of future Clemson teammate Kelly Bryant.
On Monday morning, after the first practice of the week, TheClemsonInsider caught up with Green.
“It was good, got to go against some of these guys, see what it was like, see what the rest of this week is going to be like, so it was exciting, it was good,” he said.
Through much of the morning session, Green was lined up across from Albert Huggins, who will play defensive end for the Sandlappers.
“He’s a big dude. He’s a big guy. I’ll get to practice against him for the next four or five years, whatever. That’s good that I get to go against him and see what he’s going to be like,” Green said. “We’ve been friends this week. I like him a lot, so I’m glad I’ve gotten to go against him.”
Green and Huggins are just two of the Clemson commitments playing in this year’s game. Also joining them on the South Carolina team are Bryant and Kaleb Chalmers. Tanner Muse is the lone Tiger picked for the North Carolina squad.
“I’ve met a bunch of those guys and went on officials,” Green said. “I went on official with Kelly and Kaleb, so I hung out with them, got to know them pretty good. All these Clemson commits, we’ve gotten pretty close, so it’s been good.”
When they get to Clemson next month, Green believes his first look will be at tackle.
“But if they say go play guard, I can play guard before I play tackle,” he said. “I’m going to do what they say and try to help the team, do whatever.”
The class includes three other offensive line commitments: Mitch Hyatt, Jake Fruhmorgen and Zach Giella.
“It’s really exciting. We have so much potential,” Green said. “I can’t wait to get down there and work with coach (Robbie) Caldwell. He’s the best coach in the nation, so can’t wait to get him working with us.”
