First of all, let me say that I’m a fan of ESPN writer Jared Shanker’s work. I think he does a pretty good job and I enjoy reading his stories.
His story on the “Play that changed the ACC Race” on Tuesday was again another good one, however, what he described in Clemson’s loss at Florida State this year is again an unfair assumption of the Clemson program that Dabo Swinney and his staff have worked so hard at trying to lose.
For years Clemson, mostly under the Tommy Bowden era, knocked off top 10 squads like Florida State or Miami only to follow it up with a loss to an unranked Maryland or Duke team the following week. “Clemsoning,” as it was coined, cost the Tigers a chance at a few ACC Championships, while creating a reputation that Swinney’s teams—despite all of their successes—still can’t shake.
