Amir Trapp had six interceptions and returned four punts for touchdown during his senior season at Daniel High School.
Picked to represent South Carolina in this year’s Shrine Bowl, Trapp has the opportunity to join Clemson as a greyshirt. Furman has offered and Duke continues to express interest.
Trapp spoke with TheClemsonInsider about the three schools.
Clemson: It’s a great platform to get noticed at the NFL level. Clemson has a lot of good prospects every year that go on to the NFL. The good thing about it is they all get their degree, too. I like that part.
Furman: Education, you really can’t beat a Furman education. That’s really a great degree for after college.
Duke: I’m just going to wait and see, nothing major has really happened with Duke yet, so I’m just waiting to see.
Trapp will take an official visit to Clemson the weekend of January 16. A week later, Furman will host him. His father, James, a former Clemson standout and Super Bowl champion with the Ravens, is currently on staff as the school’s FCA director.
While that certainly helps in Clemson’s push to sign Amir, there’s more appeal than the family connection.
“Over the last five years, coach (Dabo) Swinney has done a good job with all his players, making sure they do well in class and on the field, off the field, too,” Trapp said.
