Among prospects in the 2016 class, Tre Lamar is among the nation’s leaders in visits to Clemson.
The four-star linebacker from Roswell, Georgia first visited Clemson last spring. He was back in August to watch practice, then returned twice during the season for games.
On Saturday, Lamar visited for the Elite Junior Day.
“It was a good visit there,” he told TheClemsonInsider, shortly after wrapping up the visit.
“This is the first time I got to see the training room and I got more of a feel for Clemson while visiting. I’ve gone to a couple visits so far, but I got a better feel from this visit,” Lamar said.
Saturday’s trip was one of the better visits to Tigertown.
“It was — compared to game day — I got to see everything I wanted to,” Lamar said. “It wasn’t as rushed. I really got, like I said, a good feel for it, the campus and life they have on Clemson, playing football and being a student, so I would say it was a good visit.”
With around 20 visitors at the event, Dabo Swinney and Brent Venables got plenty of face time with the No. 9 inside linebacker in the country, according to 247.
“I talked with coach Venables and coach Swinney about the culture of Clemson and the history, things like that,” Lamar said. “Also, with coach Venables, I talked about the type of defense they run and how I would fit into it.”
Even though Duke does not occupy a spot in his top-five, his next visit will be to Durham. That lead group of Clemson, Alabama, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee remains in no particular order.
“I haven’t decided when I’m going to cut down that list yet, but it’s still pretty early in the process, so I’ll just stick with the five for now,” Lamar said.
