Clemson took game two of the series with West Virginia with a 4-2 win Saturday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore.
Zack Erwin earned his first win of the year. Erwin went 6.0 innings and only gave up four hits, one run and one earned run. Schnell came in and pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Drew Moyer closed it out for the Tigers in the ninth.
In the first inning Clemson jumped out to the lead. With two outs Tyler Krieger singled. Steven Duggar singled to left and Krieger came all the way around to score thanks to an error by the left fielder. The Tigers led 1-0 after one.
West Virginia fought back and tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly.
Clemson regained the lead in the fifth. Tyler Slaton doubled to left center to start the inning. Chase Pinder singled to center advancing Slaton to third. With one out Steven Duggar hit a sacrifice fly down the left field line to score Slaton. After five Clemson led 2-1.
The Tigers added some insurance in the seventh. Eli White doubled to left center to leadoff. Tyler Slaton reached on a fielder’s choice while White scored on an error by the pitcher. Slaton stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Pinder. Clemson led 4-1 after seven.
West Virginia added a solo homerun in the ninth of Drew Moyer.
Clemson moved to 1-1 on the season. Game three will determine the series winner Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
