Lee to be Tigers’ new skipper

Sources have confirmed to The Clemson Insider that College of Charleston head coach Monte Lee will be the new head baseball coach at Clemson.

TCI has been told that Clemson and Lee have agreed in principle to a deal that will make Lee the next head baseball coach. The two parties are still working on the final details of the contract.

Lee takes over for Jack Leggett, who was not retained for the final year of his contract by Dan Radakovich on June 4.

Lee, 38, just completed his seventh season in Charleston.

The Cougars went 45-15 this season, which ended with a loss in the Tallahassee Regional finals to Florida State. Lee, who was an assistant coach under Ray Tanner at South Carolina for six seasons, has a 276-145 record at College of Charleston. His teams have appeared in four NCAA Tournaments and have won 40-plus games four times.

Lee interviewed for the opening last Tuesday and then again on Friday, which was his official interview. He met with athletic director Dan Radakovich on Friday.

Radakovich completed all the interviews on Monday, which included interviewing former Clemson player and Washington Nationals bullpen coach Matthew LeCroy. The former Major League player interviewed for four hours, TCI was told.

No news from Clemson on when Lee’s announcement will be made official.
