Earlier this week, Monte Lee picked up a commitment from [autotag]Hunter Henson[/autotag].
Henson, a rising senior outfielder from Chase High School in Forest City, N.C., visited Clemson on Wednesday and accepted Lee’s invitation to join the Clemson baseball program as a walk-on.
“(Lee) just told me that he really looked forward to me playing for him. He liked my speed and just told me a few things to do that I could get faster and stronger. He told me just to be safe and don’t get hurt,” Henson said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider on Friday morning.
For Major League prospects, the average time in the 60-yard-dash is 6.9. Henson has a laser-timed run of 6.5 under his belt.
As a junior at Chase, he had 23 stolen bases and six doubles.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Clemson,” Henson said. “My family went to N.C. State. Every year, we go to the N.C. State, Clemson game and every year I would wear orange.
“We would have a family Christmas card and everybody is N.C. State as a family and then I’m in my orange. I’ve always loved it.”
Henson visited Clemson on Wednesday and jumped on the invitation to Clemson. Western Carlina, Furman, Mars Hill, UNC-Asheville and Wofford were also expressing interest.
“It’s an amazing opportunity. It’s a dream come true. I can’t wait to put on that Tiger uniform and represent Clemson University as a baseball player,” Henson said.
The 5-10, 175-pound prospect players summer ball with Southern Athletics, which is run by former Clemson standout John Hinson.
