In spite of the commitment he made to Clemson in February, Tennessee continued to pursue [autotag]Tavien Feaster[/autotag], and for good reason.
Their persistence finally paid off, as the Vols’ staff scored a return visit from Feaster for last weekend’s Orange Carpet Day.
“They just kept recruiting me hard,” he said. “They kept tugging and tugging and tugging until I finally said, ‘Hey, if they say it’s this good, I have to go visit again.’ So I went and visited again. It was a really fun experience for me, but I’m committed right now.”
Feaster reaffirmed his commitment to [autotag]Clemson[/autotag] several times during Wednesday afternoon’s interview, but he made no bones about Tennessee being in the mix for his signature.
Tennessee tight ends coach Mark Elder and running backs coach Robert Gillespe lead the Vols’ push for the four-star running back from Spartanburg High School.
“Coach Elder is a great coach. Coach Gillespe is a great coach. They’re great coaches and great men. Tennessee is a really good school, but I chose where I wanted to go,” Feaster said. “But, right now, my mind is made up.”
He added, “It was definitely fun to get up to Tennessee, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. At the end of the day, I’m still committed to Clemson. I’m going to honor my commitment to Clemson.”
Feaster hasn’t scheduled other visits, to Tennessee. Clemson will host him for a visit on Thursday.
“You only get to do this once, so I’m just really having fun with it. Now, that the season has begun, it’s back to business,” he said.
Seven months are left between Feaster and his final decision.
“I’ve just been praying about it, some deep thinking about it, talking to my parents about it. I’ve always got to listen to my mom. My mom knows best. So, honestly, I’m going to take my time with it,” he said. “Right now, I’m committed to Clemson.”
The countdown to Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 is on.
“Come signing day, most likely, I’m going to sign with Clemson,” Feaster said.
