Kearse says Saturday is going to be chippy

Clemson safety Jayron Kearse has a message for the referee who will officiate Saturday’s game against sixth-ranked Notre Dame.

“I hope the ref lets us play football,” he said. “Just know this, it is going to be a chippy game. I’m definitely going to be chippy so they can expect that from me.”

Kearse seemed a little aggravated with the Irish when he came to the WestZone on Monday to speak with the media. Of course, Notre Dame brought it on with some of the things a few of their players have been saying about the Tigers on twitter and through the media.

Notre Dame wide receiver Will Fuller wrote this on twitter following Saturday’s win over UMass.

“I actually favored that tweet. I saw it. Hey, it is what it is,” Kearse said. “We’ll see when we get out there on Saturday. After the kickoff, we’ll see if he still has that same mindset.”

Fuller is ranked eighth nationally in receiving yards with 454 yards on 22 catches through the first four games. He is averaging 20.6 yards per catch and has scored six touchdowns.

“I’m ready to go up against Will Fuller. I’m ready to catch him,” Kearse said. “I’m going to give those guys all I got. They are talking a lot. Obviously, they don’t know what we do down here in Death Valley. So we are looking forward to this. We are looking forward to meeting the running back in the hole, catching Will Fuller in the post, whatever it takes. I’m just ready for it.”
