WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Devon Lawrence put together a strong performance for the college recruiters who were in town for Wake Forest’s regular season finale against Sanderson.
Lawrence rushed for 127 yards and a pair of scores as Wake Forest pushed its record to 10-0 with a 26-9 win. Clemson assistants Dan Brooks and Robbie Caldwell were on hand, as were coaches from Ohio State, Alabama and Duke.
“It was pretty cool that they noticed me this young, and noticing the team, really,” Lawrence told TheClemsonInsider, after the game.
“Because I heard they came out for at least 10 or 15 players on our team, it’s just a blessing for them coming out there. Hopefully, my teammates can go up to the next level.”
Lawrence, a 2018 prospect, already holds offers from Clemson, Alabama, Florida State, NC State and UNC.
Just before the start of the season, Lawrence and his brother, Dexter, made their second visit to Clemson. The brothers’ first trip was in 2013 for the Georgia game.
“The atmosphere at the game is so live. I just like how it feels. The whole stadium shakes. It’s just crazy,” he said. “The coaches are amazing. They just treat you nice and they know what they’re talking about and they know what they’re doing.”
Their most recent visit offered an opportunity for them to better get to know Dabo Swinney and his staff.
“We saw the same thing kind of, but we got a chance to talk to the coaches more, so I liked that,” Lawrence said.
Dexter will be an official visitor to Clemson next weekend. Devon will be there as an unofficial guest.
For the season, he’s accumulated 1,256 all-purpose yards and scored 22 touchdowns.
