The latest on Simpson

Four-star offensive lineman John Simpson took his official visit to Clemson this past weekend.

TheClemsonInsider spoke with Fort Dorchester head coach Steve LaPrad on Tuesday afternoon for the latest on the No. 3 offensive guard in the class of 2016.

“He had a good time. He liked it. Clemson is still very high on his list. He and his mom and granddad went,” LaPrad said.

LSU hosted Simpson in the fall. Florida had him on campus earlier this month.

“I know he enjoyed it and I know Clemson is right near the top of his list, obviously, and has been the whole time,” LaPrad said of Simpson’s third official. “I think it’s them, right now, I think it’s them, LSU and Florida, I would think.”

For now, Simpson is planning to visit Alabama this weekend, but that’s not set in stone.

“He’s thinking about not going, but I’m not sure if he is or not,” LaPrad said.

Florida is sending head coach Jim McElwain and area recruiter Chris Rumph on Tuesday afternoon. LaPrad said the entire South Carolina staff will watch Simpson’s wrestling match on Wednesday night.

Clemson hasn’t been to Fort Dorchester this week. LSU head coach Les Miles hasn’t visited this month, but offensive line coach Jeff Grimes stopped by last week.

LaPrad believes a decision is eight days away.

“I’ve got a feeling he’ll probably do it on Signing Day. He could do it before, but it will probably be Signing Day, it looks like,” he said.
