Simmons recaps Clemson official

Isaiah Simmons arrived to Clemson on Friday evening, after spending the previous two days on an official visit to Michigan.

On Sunday afternoon, before he stepped on a plane to fly back home to Olathe, Kan., Simmons (6-3, 210) spoke with TheClemsonInsider.

“It was good. It was a good visit, actually,” he said.

There was a lot to like about his first visit to Tigertown.

“The facilities and the coaches and just knowing how they are with all the athletes and, really, everybody,” Simmons said. “Just seeing how it was at Clemson.”

Shaq Smith served as his host for the weekend.

“It was a really good time. I felt like I could hang with them if I were to go there. I didn’t feel uncomfortable,” Simmons said.

The message from Dabo Swinney, Brent Venables and the rest of the coaches was simple.

“They made it very, very clear that they want me, so that’s all they could say,” Simmons said. “And I have a good chance of playing early.”

A decision will be announced on Signing Day, but the details haven’t been arranged.

Michigan and Nebraska are believed to pose as the strongest threats against Clemson. Simmons previously told TCI that Missouri and Illinois are also receiving consideration.

According to 247, Simmons is the No. 16 ranked safety in the class of 2016. A four-star prospect, he’s the No. 3 overall player in the state of Kansas. Clemson defensive end commitment Xavier Kelly is No. 1.
