ESPN personality Paul Finebaum blasted Dabo Swinney and his program following Saturday’s 28-20, double-overtime loss at Miami that dropped Clemson’s record to 4-3 (2-3 ACC).
Finebaum believes the Tigers’ head coach is fortunate that North Carolina suffered a massive upset to Virginia on Saturday, with Finebaum saying it takes attention away from the remark that Swinney made last week about Clemson maybe needing to “lose a few games and lighten up the bandwagon.”
“Fortunately (North Carolina) lost that game, because we aren’t focusing on what a blithering idiot Dabo Swinney is for saying what he did earlier in the week about hey, maybe I need to lose a couple of games and my fan base will understand what it’s like. Well, he now has lost a couple of games. How ‘bout three, Dabo,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show.
The Tigers have now lost three games in three straight seasons, and Finebaum doubled down on what he said after Clemson’s season-opening loss to Duke on Sept. 4, that “Dabo’s dynasty is done.”
“I made some comments a couple of months ago or weeks ago about ‘Dabo’s dynasty is done,’” Finebaum said. “It was more for alliteration. His dynasty is over. It has been over for a while, and the concern now is can he ever get it back to an elite level, and I think there has to be some doubts. And there are a lot of reasons for it, and most of them are when Dabo Swinney looks in the mirror at night.”
Finebaum finished up his commentary on Clemson by taking a closing shot at Swinney.
“Now he’s lost two overtime games,” Finebaum said. “I’m sure he’ll argue that when he speaks to the Greenville Touchdown Club Monday afternoon. ‘We were this close.’ But, it doesn’t matter. It’s over, and the rest of his schedule, I don’t even care.”
