With the 2023 NFL season nearing the halfway point, ESPN this week released a 2024 NFL mock draft (subscription required) projecting the first 32 picks of the draft next spring.
ESPN’s Jordan Reid gave his predictions for the first round as things stand now at this juncture of the season, and he currently sees one Clemson defender hearing his name called in the top 10.
Reid’s mock draft has junior cornerback Nate Wiggins being selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 10th overall pick.
“There are a lot of directions the Titans could go with a top-10 pick. With the trade of safety Kevin Byard, the team hinted at an incoming rebuild. Kristian Fulton is scheduled to become a free agent after the season, so the Titans will likely be searching for a corner alongside Sean Murphy-Bunting,” Reid wrote.
“Scouts have been intrigued by Wiggins — a long and active man-to-man corner — all season. He is physical in press coverage but also has the awareness to make plays in zone.”
In five games this season (four starts), the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Wiggins has posted 11 tackles (one for loss), a sack, five pass breakups, a forced fumble and an interception — a 46-yard pick-six vs. Florida Atlantic on Sept. 16.
Wiggins missed two games after leaving the Florida State game on Sept. 23 with a bone bruise after hyperextending his knee, but returned to action at Miami last Saturday when he recorded six tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
A former four-star and top-100 national prospect from Atlanta, Wiggins entered this season with 25 tackles (2.0 for loss), 15 pass breakups, a blocked field goal and an interception (returned an ACC Championship Game-record 98 yards) over 24 games (11 starts) from 2021-22.
The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held in Detroit from April 25–27.
