This Week in the ACC

CLEMSON – Each week The Clemson Insider takes an in depth look into the Atlantic Coast Conference’s weekend slate.

This weekend the Clemson Tigers head up to Raleigh, N.C. to face off against NC State.

Here is what is on the slate for this weekend.

Saturday

No. 4 Florida State (7-0, 5-0) at Wake Forest (4-3, 1-3) Noon, ABC

Latest Line: FSU -20.5

What to watch for: Florida State leads the ACC in scoring defense in October, allowing an average of 13.3 points per game. Since the start of 2020, Wake Forest holds a 13-3 record during the month of October. With three touchdowns last weekend FSU quarterback Jordan Travis has accounted for multiple touchdowns in 14 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country. The Demon Deacons 81.5 percent win rate at home ranks second in the ACC since 2019, behind only Clemson.

UConn (1-6) at Boston College (4-3, 2-2) Noon, ACCN

Latest Line: BC -14

What to watch for: Boston College started the season 1-3 for the second consecutive year. UConn is 1-6 on the season with their only win coming at Rice on October 7th. The Huskies are 0-2 against the ACC this year with losses against NC State and Duke. BC quarterback Thomas Castellanos is one of four quarterbacks in the country with 1,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards.

 Clemson (4-3, 2-3) at NC State (4-3, 1-2) 2 p.m., The CW

Latest Line: Clemson -10

What to watch for: Three of the last six contest between Clemson and NC State have been one score games and two of the last six have gone into at least one overtime. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney will attempt to earn his 166th win passing Frank Howard while NC State’s Dave Doeren enters the game one victory shy of tying Earle Edwards as the winningest coach in Wolfpack history.

Virginia (2-5, 2-1) at Miami (5-2, 1-2) 3:30 p.m., ACCN

Latest Line: Miami -19

What to watch for: Both Virginia and Miami are coming off big conference wins that were decided by one score – Virginia at North Carolina (31-27) and Clemson at Miami (28-20). Virginia’s victory was the first road win over a top-10 team in program history. Miami freshman quarterback Emory Williams made his first career start in place of Tyler Van Dyke. He completed 24 of 33 passes for 151 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

No. 20 Duke (5-2, 2-1) at No. 18 Louisville (6-1, 3-1) 3:30 p.m., ESPN

Latest Line: Louisville -4

What to watch for: The Duke Blue Devils and the Louisville Cardinals are both coming off of road losses. This contest will mark the first time these two programs have met while being nationally ranked. The Cardinals are looking for their first nine-game home winning streak since 2015 and 2016 seasons. The Blue Devils will have to decide on whether or not star quarterback Riley Leonard will be able to go against the Louisville Cardinals.

Pitt (2-5, 1-3) at No. 14 Notre Dame (6-2) 3:30 p.m., NBC

Latest Line: ND -20.5

What to watch for: Pitt and Notre Dame will meet for the 73rd time on Saturday. 10 of the past 13 games between the two respective schools have been decided by single digits, which include each of the last six encounters at Notre Dame stadium. Pitt quarterback Christian Veilleux is coming off a career performance throwing for 302 yards and two touchdowns against Wake Forest.

No. 17 North Carolina (6-1, 3-1) at Georgia Tech (3-4, 2-2) 8 p.m., ACCN

Latest Line: UNC -11.5

What to watch for: North Carolina and Georgia Tech are both coming off home losses in conference play. UNC quarterback Drake Maye is averaging 321.3 passing yards per game, which currently ranks fourth in the FBS. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King is first in the ACC and 10th nationally with 17 passing touchdowns on the season. UNC running back Omarion Hampton leads the ACC in rushing with 770 yards and an average of 110.0 rushing yards per game.
