Grayson High defensive back Ryan Carter found himself in the middle of a controversy last week as an interview with teammate Robert Nkemdiche had some concerned about the strength of his commitment to the Tigers.
“It was kind of like blown up out of proportion. Robert’s words were mixed up in that story. He wasn’t trying to say he wouldn’t go to Clemson if I didn’t get an offer. He was just saying he wants them to look at a teammate,” said Carter.
Ryan and Robert will both be heading to Clemson later this month.
“We are going up on the 20th. Wayne and David are going also. I’m not sure yet if we will stay overnight,” said Carter.
The Grayson standout looks forward to seeing why his teammates fell in love with Clemson.
“It will be my first trip to Clemson. I can’t wait to see it,” said Carter.
Ryan has been to a few other schools with Robert.
“The only schools I have visited are Ole Miss and LSU. Those trips were with Robert and David,” said Carter.
The offer list stands at five right now.
“I have offers from Ole Miss, East Carolina, Tulane, Arkansas State and Georgia State right now,” said Carter.
What is Ryan hearing from the Clemson coaches?
“They want to talk more with me when I get there. They want to get to know my family,” replied Carter.
Ryan, who runs a 4.4, talked with TheClemsonInsider.com about his strengths on the field.
“I just use my speed and my quickness helps me a lot. I like to hit. I can cover as well, but my main thing is coming down the edge,” said Carter.
What is it like to be a good friend and teammate of the nation’s top recruit?
“It is crazy to know all of this can happen. I have been Robert’s best friend since Middle School. To see how crazy it is from now to then is something. I don’t look at him any different. He is still the same to me,” replied Carter.
