TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with 2014 verbal commitment Austin Meadows. The top outfielder is making a tour around the country over the next month.
“On the 31st of July I am going to Syracuse for the East Coast Pro Showcase. Then when I get back I head out to San Diego for the All American game. Then I come back and then go out to Chicago for another game,” said Meadows.
Austin was impressed with the Tigers the first time he visited campus.
“I definitely love the atmosphere up there. When I got up there I fell in love with it. The coaches are amazing how humble and how hard working they are,” said Meadows.
Coach Leggett made a positive impression on Austin quickly.
“Coach Leggett is a great guy. I knew I liked him right at first,” said Meadows.
The Grayson High standout has grown up playing with another Grayson superstar Robert Nkemdiche.
“We actually grew up playing football together. In middle school we started to play together. We were also on the basketball team together as well,” said Meadows.
Austin understands some of what Robert is going through as the number one recruit in the nation. As the No. 2 baseball recruit in the nation for 2014 Austin also heard from most of the top schools in the nation.
“It has been just crazy. I know what he is going through. I am glad I got it out of the way so now I can focus on baseball,” said Meadows.
How does Robert feel about his decision to be a Tiger?
“I know he is definitely excited about going to Clemson. Wayne, David and Nick are as well. We will be having a little Grayson community up there at Clemson,” said Meadows.
Austin could be a first round pick in next years MLB draft. What are the prize recruits early thoughts on the draft and whether he will go professional or go to Clemson?
“I mean getting drafted and going pro would be a dream, but if things don’t work out in the draft going to Clemson would be a great experience,” replied Meadows.
