Different This Time for Brewer

TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with Clemson defensive back Xavier Brewer following Saturday’s scrimmage.

“It was a good day to just go out there and play ball.  I am kind of excited about it but it is kind of bitter sweet.  I am just ready to get everything underway.  We worked so hard in the offseason.  I am ready to get going,” said Brewer.

This season is different as Xavier does everything for the final time as a Tiger.

“It is way different.  Man this is my last shot to prove what I can do on the field.  Hopefully I can make a name for myself so I can just keep playing ball,” said Brewer.

What is the biggest difference in the coverage concepts this year?

“There are just a lot more zone schemes instead of man.  Other than that it is just defense.  You have to go out there and hit people and play aggressive.  You have to be smart and have your eyes in the right spot,” replied Brewer.

Xavier will not be playing nickle this year.

“No, it is Travis Blanks and Quandon Christian.  Those guys are doing really good.  Travis has what it takes to be a freshman All-American.  They will bring a lot of aggressiveness to that position and do pretty good in coverage,” said Brewer.

Does Xavier expect the secondary to be improved in 2012?

“I think so definitely.  We have had a good camp so far,” said Brewer.
