After taking a lead to halftime Daniel fell to Easley Friday night. Clemson verbal commitment Jae’lon Oglesby put on a show helping Daniel build the early lead. TheClemsonInsider.com was on hand for all of the action.
“It was our first game. We need a harder week of practice. That is pretty much it. We need to cut down on the turnovers,” said Oglesby.
Jae’lon took the ball 14 yards for a score in the first half, but it was called back with a penalty. Jae’lon wouldn’t be stopped as he took the next handoff and ran back to the endzone where Daniel recovered a fumble to take the lead.
“I just feel like I needed to make a play. Everybody was down on the sideline. I just needed to make something happen,” said Oglesby.
On the next series Jae’lon took one 56 yards to the house for Daniel’s second touchdown.
“My offensive line just kept telling me to keep running hard. I saw a crease and I just hit it,” said Oglesby.
Former Daniel Lion Nuk Hopkins and Sammy Watkins made the trip to see the Upstate showdown.
“I didn’t know they were there until I talked with them afterwards. They just told me to keep grinding,” said Oglesby.
Thousands of Daniel fans made the trip to support the Lions at Easley, many not arriving until halftime because of traffic problems.
“It was great to see all the fans. We have the best fanbase I think. Our fans follow us everywhere. Hopefully they will be in Greenville next week,” said Oglesby.
The 2014 standout plans to be in the Georgia Dome Saturday to watch Clemson battle Auburn.
“I think I am traveling down there with my parents,” said Oglesby.
