Time for the latest edition of Ask TCI. Each week we will take questions on the message board The Rock. We will take questions up until midnight on Tuesday.
Each weekend we will run our Ask TCI feature with answers to some of the questions asked by the Clemson Insiders. Make sure to get your questions in next week.
Question – Chad said last year that he had installed about 70% of the offense. What % has he installed at this point this year?
TCI –Morris said earlier this year that he has only installed about 75%. The biggest change this year has been the move to the pistol and more Tajh runs. We have also obviously seen some new trick plays.
It is our understanding that the majority of this offense that has not been installed are tied to a true duel-threat running quarterback.
Question – Why doesn’t Clemson have more night games at home? Is bc of the administration, tv/ESPN, or some other reason
TCI – The Clemson administration has nothing to do with the game times. That is driven by television.
Question – Do you know the final list of the red-shirted players?
TCI – The freshman that are red-shirting are Jay Jay McCullough, Oliver Jones, Jay Guillermo, Patrick DeStefano, Ronald Geohaghan, Martin Aiken, T.J. Burrell, Chad Kelly, Ronald Geohaghan and Germone Hopper. Martin Jenkins and Justin Parker are also not playing this year.
Question – Does this upcoming basketball team have any chance at the big dance? if so, who are they counting on to lead them there? What, if any, freshman will have a significant impact on the upcoming season?
TCI – There is always a chance, but we would be shocked if this year’s team made the NCAA. If they are to make it Booker and Jennings will both have to produce at a high level with consistency. That has been a struggle for both players during their first three years. The Tigers will also need to find someone that can hit from the outside consistently.
Question – Any news on O-Line recruiting?
As we said in Thursday’s Insider Report Clemson is the team to beat right now for Crowder. Crowder is an oversign guy so they would take his commitment at any time. However if he were to go ahead and pull the trigger you could see the staff shutdown the OL recruiting for 2013. As we have seen there is plenty of young talent on the offensive line. They just need some experience.
Question – Do you feel that our recruiting board for the OL is too small?
TCI – No, not at all. Take a look at the depth chart for the offensive line and you will see the Tigers will lose Dalton Freeman this year and that is it. Also remember Maybank and Mac Lain have both moved to the offensive line. The numbers just aren’t there to take more than one or two in the 2013 class.
Question – Obviously, our defense is not good this year. I want your answers to a few questions:
2) Who (specifically) will make it better/make an impact?
3) Which freshmen (in your opinion) will make a difference next year (defensive line in particular)?
TCI – The defense should definitely be better next year. First if you look at the youth on this defense one reason they will be better next year is simply the sophomores and freshman will be improved. Second if you look at the defensive recruiting class for 2013 there is plenty of help coming to Tigertown. Nkemdiche is a monster and will make an impact early. Daniel and Lawson are also both players that will be as talented the day they step on campus as any of the current defensive ends. they will be better just by the current players. Kearse should see time next season in the secondary. Kamara and O’Daniel could also play next season.
Question – Will the staff shake up the defense any more? Guys like Shuey, Barnes, and Steward have done well when given time.
TCI – As the season progresses we will likely see more of all three. Steward has played six snaps at linebacker each of the last two games. Barnes has really played well the last two games. With Goodman not having the senior season many had hoped we could see the snap count for Barnes increase.
As far as Shuey he played 24 snaps last week after only playing seven at Boston College. A lot of that had to do with the offense Georgia Tech runs. Against other defenses we will likely continue to see Anthony get the majority of the snaps.
