Ask TCI

Time for the latest edition of Ask TCI.  Each week we will take questions on the message board The Rock.  We will take questions up until midnight on Tuesday.

Each weekend we will run our Ask TCI feature with answers to some of the questions asked by the Clemson Insiders.  Make sure to get your questions in next week.

Question – Any word on the mobile site being able to show the entire thread and responses? Thanks!

TCI –Our developer is working on this feature.  I have slowed him down a little bit because we haven’t seen as many users using the mobile application as we had expected.  Most of the mobile users are still using the full site.

Question – Can Dabo win a National Championship at Clemson?

TCI – This is an easy one.  Of course he can win an National Championship at Clemson.  Expect to see the Tigers in the discussion in 2013 for the championship.  If he continues to recruit like he has in the past and builds a better defense there is no question Clemson will be in the mix for a national championship.

Obviously in order to win the national championship everything has to go well and you need a little luck.  Dabo’s goal as he has said many times is to build a national power year in and year out at Clemson.  He is well on his way to doing just that.

Question – Are the redshirt guys getting a chance to learn the system and one on one with coaches, or are they mostly playing the scout team?

TCI – The red-shirt players are on the scout team.  That is one reason the coaches sometimes play some guys even if they don’t get a lot of snaps because they get the reps in practice.  The guys on the scout team will get some snaps during the bowl practices.

This was also a major factor when the staff decided to play Tony Steward this year.  Even though he hasn’t played significant snaps yet he is much further along than he would have been if he had red-shirted and spent the year with the scout team.

Question – Who is the best offensive and defensive coach on the football staff?

TCI – This in an interesting question.  We would have to say Morris is the best coach on offense.  You don’t make a coach the highest paid assistant in the country if you don’t think he is a helluva coach.

On defense we would have to go with Dan Brooks.  He is doing a very good job with a very young group of defensive tackles.  His track record for putting players in the NFL and for player development is one of the best around.

Question – What elements are missing right now from the Clemson squad to make us strong contenders for the MNC with the next few years?

Defense, defense, defense.  The staff simply needs to recruit better talent on the defensive side of the ball.  The good news is they are well on their way to doing just that.

Question – I’m really excited about Tyshon Dye, do you see him playing LB or RB. He looks like he could be a bruiser of a back, he should ease the pain of missing on Gurley.

TCI – Dye will play running back at Clemson.  The staff is thrilled to have Dye’s commitment.  He will fit perfectly into what coach Morris is looking for in a running back.  He has the size coach Morris likes and he can go inside or outside as needed.

Question – Which freshman on the basketball team will have the biggest impact?

TCI –We talked with coach Brownell about this Wednesday at the ACC Operation Basketball.  The bad news is the one everyone thought had the best chance to contribute early was Blossomgame and it looks like he may need to sit this year.  Coach Brownell put it at 50/50 on whether he will be ready to play this year.  The next two weeks will be critical.

Nnoko will have to contribute some this year inside.  Booker had some good things to say about his play this week as well as Smith.  Both will be forced to help this season and their development will be key to how successful the Tigers can be.

Not sure the guards will play much at point with Rod Hall improving a great deal over the summer.
