One of the Oldest Series
Clemson’s series against Virginia Tech is one of the oldest for the Tigers. The two teams first met in 1900 when the Tigers won 17-5 in John Heisman’s first game at Clemson.
The Tigers actually held a nine game winning streak in the series from 1955-89.

Former Tiger quarterback Mike O’Cain is the quarterback coach for the Hokies. O’Cain was the Tiger’s MVP in 1976.
Pearman Coached at Both
Danny Pearman who played for the Tigers has coached at Virginia Tech and Clemson. Pearman graduated in 1987 and is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Tigers. Pearman coached for the Hokies from 1998 to 2005.
Blanks Wins first PAT Award
True freshman Travis Blanks is the first winner of Swinney Huddle PAT (Point After Touchdown Award). Blanks is the third leading tackler for the Tigers. The award is given monthly to the football player that personifies manhood through leadership, ethics, demeanor and community involvement.
Hopkins & Freeman mid-season All-Americans
DeAndre Hopkins and Dalton Freeman have both been named mid-season All-Americans Phil Steele.
Hopkins is on record pace in every category with 49 catches for 777 yards and eight touchdowns. He is now second in Clemson history with 173 career catches. His 17 touchdowns is tied for third with Perry Tuttle.
Dalton Freeman is in his fourth year as the starting center for the Tigers. The last time a center started for four years was in the 1940’s.
Top Rusher and Receiver in ACC
Clemson’s Andre Ellington continues to lead the ACC in rushing while DeAndre Hopkins continues to lead in receiving.
