Ask TCI

Time for the latest edition of Ask TCI.  Each week we will take questions on the message board The Rock.  We will take questions up until midnight on Tuesday.

Each weekend we will run our Ask TCI feature with answers to some of the questions asked by the Clemson Insiders.  Make sure to get your questions in next week.

Question – Do you know the new AD’s policy on noon games?

TCI – The issue with the game times has nothing to do with the Athletic Director.  Those times are determined by television and the ACC.  The only games times Clemson sets are those not picked up by television which these days is not very common.

Question – What does Venables think about the Clemson fanbase/gameday experience vs Oklahoma??

TCI – We haven’t heard Venables asked this particular question so we don’t have that answer.  We can tell you that he was very impressed with the Valley.  We can also tell you that he is beginning to feel more comfortable at Clemson.

It was a hard move for coach Venables after being at Oklahoma so long.  He has been very open about things.  He looks a lot more comfortable the past few weeks.  Obviously some of that has to do with the improvement of the defense.

Question – Do you think Kellen Jones will start at LB next year? What is projected depth chart at Sam, Will and Mike for 2013? Thank you.

TCI – Great question.  Jones looked very good in camp for sure and he knows what coach Venables wants from the linebackers.  Now after this season of course the current group of linebackers will also have a year of experience with coach V’s system.

Projecting next year’s depth chart at linebacker is getting tougher with the improvement of Shuey.  Right now we would say Steward will step in for Willard at the WILL spot.  Shuey will stay at MIKE.  We will have to watch to see if where Anthony and Jones will be next spring.  We could see Anthony moving outside.

Christian has actually come along at SAM the past few week.  Right now he would be the starting SAM.  We will have to see if he can play with more consistency.  Blanks will move to safety so he will no longer be in the mix at SAM or nickle.

The Tigers will be absolutely loaded at linebacker next year.  Hopefully O’Daniel and Boulware can come in and red-shirt.

Question – Should we be worried about Robinson visiting ND?

TCI – There is always reason for concern when a committed player takes other visits.  Robinson is certainly not as firm as he was at one point.  We can tell you however that Clemson still feels good about their chances to sign Robinson.

Question – I noticed Pinion was booming kickoffs during the Wake game. Any chance he takes over full time this year? Also, how is he progressing with his punting? I don’t remember seeing him get a chance to punt but I may have missed it.

TCI -Pinion sure was getting some great kickoffs last week.  He has an incredible leg on kickoffs and punts.  We will likely see him get more chances on kickoffs.  Not sure if he can win the job down the stretch from Benton or not but Pinion was kicking them to the back of the endzone Thursday night.

If Pinion can continue to be consistent when he gets his chances Dabo will certainly go with him more.

Question – If we lost all scholarship QB’s like the crazy situation at Maryland, who would we use as our QB?

TCI – If your talking just the scholarship guys going down they would certainly give Donny McElveen a look.  Also Nick Schuessler, Nkemdiche’s good friend and former teammate, would also get a look.

One guy that would likely get a look that is at another position is Robert Smith.  He was an outstanding quarterback in high school.  We could certainly see more Wildcat from Sammy and Andre as well.

Question – Who do you think will be starting safeties next year?

TCI –Dabo has said a number of times that Travis Blanks is expected to move to safety full-time next year.  He will be one of the starters.  Robert Smith will get a look at the other spot.  Robert has played some this year, but still needs more experience.

Ronald Geohaghan will get a look this spring at safety.  Jayron Kearse is also expected to get a look.  Tankersley could play either corner or safety so he may also get a look.  Tankersley is playing corner this year at Hargrave.
