North Carolina Takes Game Two

Chapel Hill – North Carolina defeated Clemson 6-2 Monday afternoon as the two team completed Sunday night’s game that was suspended due to weather.

Clate Schmidt got the start for the Tigers.  Schmidt pitched two innings and gave up five hits, two runs, two earned runs and one walk.  Zack Erwin started on the mound Monday as the game resumed.  Erwin pitched six innings and gave up six hits, four runs and three earned runs.

Shane Kennedy and Garrett Boulware both went 2-4 at the plate.

North Carolina jumped out to an early lead once again with two runs in the bottom of the second.

Clemson got on the board in the top of the fifth.  Jon McGibbon reached on a throwing error.  Shane Kennedy singled advancing McGibbon to second.  Thomas Brittle bunted and McGibbon was out at third.  Jay Baum reached on a fielder’s choice and Kennedy scored on an error.  After the top of the fifth the Heels led 2-1.

North Carolina added another insurance run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

The Tigers added a run in the top of the eighth.  Steven Duggar singled to center and reached second on an error.  Garrett hit a two-out infield single to score Duggar.

The Heels added one more in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 6-2.

Clemson fell to 16-11 overall and 5-6 in the ACC.  The Tigers and Heels play game three Monday night at 6 PM on ESPNU.
