CLEMSON — Here is a look back at Clemson’s 8-2 win over the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest on Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
What happened?
Every Tiger starter had at least one hit and eight different starters scored a run as Clemson ran their win streak to eight games with an 8-2 win over Wake Forest to improve to 24-11 on the season and 10-6 in the ACC.
Game-Changing Moment:
The game changing moment came off the bat of Garrett Boulware early in the game. In the bottom of the first inning, Boulware hit his seventh homer of the season to put their Tigers on top 1-0. With the win, Clemson moved to 14-0 when scoring in the first inning and 16-1 when scoring first.
Story Line:
Daniel Gossett tossed 6.0 effective innings to earn his fifth win of the year and the Tigers plated runs in five of the first six innings to cruise to an 8-2 win over Wake Forest. Clemson’s had 10 different players record a hit and totaled 13 hits in the contest.
Turning Point:
The turning point in the game came in the top of the sixth inning. With Gossett struggling with his control a little, Wake had already cut the Tiger lead to 5-2 and had the bases loaded with two outs. However, Gossett got the leadoff man Stephens to fly out to left field to end the threat.
What went right?
The Tigers were able to score early and often to extend their winning streak. Gossett had a good outing after struggling a bit the past two weeks. Slaton and Costigan stayed hot as they each recorded two hits. Andrews and Campbell were both solid out of the bullpen, retiring all nine batters they faced.
