Wilson turns down MLB for Clemson

Clemson signee Weston Wilson had an opportunity to be a high draft pick in the MLB draft in just over a month, but over the weekend he made the decision to turn down the draft and be a Tiger.

“I let them know this weekend.  I sent out a letter to the teams informing them I was coming to Clemson for sure,” said Wilson.

Why did Weston decide to enroll at Clemson this summer.

“I had a bunch of scouts coming to the games and I felt like it was picking up.  I prayed about it on which way to go.  I felt God would give me peace.  He gave me peace about going to Clemson just like he did when I took my visit,” said Wilson.

The Clemson staff was excited to hear the good news earlier this week.

“I let them know on Monday.  They were really excited.  They talked about how much they were going to give 110 percent to me and the team.  They said they are ready to start working with me this summer and feel like we have a really good class coming in,” said Wilson.

Where does Weston believe he would have been drafted if he had not decided to enroll at Clemson?

“It was sort of hard to tell.  I think it would have been in the top four rounds,” replied Wilson.

Where does Weston believe the Tigers will use him in the infield?

“I was recruited as a shortstop  but I can play either short or third,” replied Wilson.

The High Point, NC standout has seen the Tigers play several times this year.

“I have been to three or four games.  I follow all the updates on Twitter to see how they are doing,” said Wilson.

Weston believes the  future is bright for the young Clemson team.

“I am really excited to come in an be a part of it.  We have a chance to go to Omaha early.  They might go this year.  With our class coming in we have a lot of strong guys that will hopefully help get Clemson back to where they have been,” said Wilson.

Weston hopes he won’t be the only high draft pick to enroll this summer.

“I think Okey has a chance of coming.  I am not sure that we will get Meadows,” said Wilson.

In about six weeks Weston will enroll at Clemson.

“I am moving down on June 22 and we start classes around June 24,” said Wilson.

Weston hopes to lead Wesleyan Christian to a good run in the playoffs.

“I feel like our season has gone really well.  We have been on a slow streak lately, but we had a big win on senior night with one of our senior’s hitting a walk-off homerun.  I am really looking foward to the states to see how that plays out,” said Wilson.
