Clemson No. 14 in Collegiate Baseball

TUCSON, Ariz. — Vanderbilt (48-7) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the fourth straight week after winning 15 of its last 16 games.

Over the past weekend, Vanderbilt beat Alabama two of three and earlier in the week defeated Belmont. The Commodores won the Southeastern Conference regular season title with a remarkable 26-3 record. It is the most league wins in SEC history. The Commodores have now won 18 straight series dating back to last season.

Poll Notes: Several other teams have been hot. Louisville has won 16 straight, Sam Houston St. has captured 14 of its last 15, and Campbell 9 straight. In key top 30 games during the past week, Virginia beat North Carolina two of three in Chapel Hill, N.C., Louisiana St. beat Mississippi two of three, Oregon St. knocked off Oregon two of three, Cal. St. Fullerton swept a 3-game series from U.C. Irvine, Florida St. beat Clemson two of three, Louisville swept a 3-game series from Pittsburgh, Mississippi St. beat South Carolina two of three, Kansas St. beat Oklahoma two of three, and Troy beat South Alabama two of three.

Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Pittsburgh (lost 4 games last week), Oklahoma (lost 7 of its last 9), and U.C. Irvine (lost 4 straight). New to the top 30 is Troy (39-16), Cal. Poly (37-16) and Rice (37-17).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
