Hale McGranahan to join TCI staff

The Clemson Insider is pleased to announce a major addition to the staff.  Hale McGranahan will join the staff at TCI effective August 1.

“I couldn’t be more excited to announce that Hale will be joining the staff at TCI.  Hale will be covering recruiting full-time for the site as well as helping cover the three major sports.  Hale brings extensive expertise in recruiting which will allow us to take another step as we continue to build the best media outlet covering Clemson athletics,” said MacRae.

McGranahan comes to The Clemson Insider after five years of working for CUTigers.com. At CUTigers, he served as the site’s primary beat reporter for the Clemson football, basketball and baseball teams. He also led recruiting coverage for the site.

Before McGranahan joined CUTigers in August of 2009, he spent just over two years as a General Assignments Reporter for The Greer Citizen, a weekly newspaper in Greer, S.C. While at The Citizen, McGranahan covered a litany of different stories, including city council meetings, crime and courts and North Greenville University football and basketball.

A native of Walnut Creek, California, McGranahan grew up in Greenville, South Carolina. After coming to grips with the fact that he did not have a professional future in soccer, basketball, baseball or football, McGranahan set his sites on a life working in and around sports.

McGranahan graduated from Winthrop University in May of 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in journalism. While attending school, he wrote for the university paper and The Rock Hill Herald. His father, Ed McGranahan, is a veteran sports reporter who’s been working with The Clemson Insider for the last two years.

“When Robert presented me with the opportunity to work with my dad and the rest of the team at The Clemson Insider, it was an opportunity that was too good to pass up,” McGranahan said. “Over the last five years, I’ve developed some very meaningful relationships with the entire TCI team, so joining up with Robert, Will and Qualk was a no brainer for me.

“Having watched the site grow over the last several years, I’m excited to announce that I will now be apart of that group. Robert’s passion for The Clemson Insider is unparalleled. His vision for the site fires me up and I can’t wait to get started next month.”
