Ask TCI

It is time for the latest edition of Ask TCI.  Each week we will take questions on the message board The Rock.

Each weekend we will run our Ask TCI feature with answers to some of the questions asked by the Clemson Insiders.  Make sure to get your questions in next week.

Question:  What are your initial thoughts on CJ Fuller? Running back? DB? Redshirt? Thx

Hale:  I think Fuller is going to stick at running back. That’s where his best future is at Clemson. With all of the guys ahead of him at the position, he’ll probably redshirt this season.

Question:  I have been out of pocket for a few weeks, so this may have been answered already. With McCloud on board is our staff no longer interested Nyheim Hines?

Hale:  They are no longer on Hines.

Question:  What is the status on Tim Settle and Clemson? Will he make it in to school or will he head to JUCO or Prep school? Also, do you have any info on Christian Wilkins and Clemson?

Hale:  We would assume that Clemson is still in very good position for Settle, based on some information we picked up after his camp stay. No word on the academic front. As for Wilkins, he’s intimated that Clemson could receive a visit. But, until that transpires, it’s hard to see Clemson having much of a shot with him.

Question – Do you anticipate there being a certain package for DeShaun Watson when he is inserted into the game? Such as a zone-read package.

TCI – The coaches are still working towards that decision.  It will depend on Watson’s progress in August.  We think the preference is to give him a series.

Questions – Some announcers last year made comments about how much Boyd was involved in game prep and planning with the coaches. To an unusual degree they would say.

Does Stoudt either have that same interest or do the coaches allow him to engage in the same way? I wonder because Stoudt strikes me as having just as good if not better football smarts.

TCI – Tajh worked closely with coach Morris.  Cole is doing the same thing.  Cole is more of a student of the game than Tajh.

Morris will try to fit the offense around what he can do well and what he is comfortable with as he did with Tajh.  We expect to see better decisions from Cole than we saw at times from Tajh.

Question – There were 45 receptions by TE’s last season counting Darrell Smith. Where do you see that total reaching this season?

TCI – We have heard great things about Leggett and McCullough from camp.  We believe this year’s TE group will surpass that number from last year.  We wouldn’t be surprised to see 60 or more from the tight ends.

Question – what is the status of Kellen Jones – will he start this year?

TCI – Kellen is still recovering from his injury.  He is still wearing green at practice.  No, we do not expect him to start this year.

Question -Which freshman will contribute the most this year on offense? On defense?

TCI – On offense it will have to be one of the receivers.  The good news is we have heard great things about Kitt, Scott and Priester during camp.  Today we will probably go with Kitt based on the feedback  from today’s scrimmage.

Defense is a tough question if you are talking about true freshmen.  Alexander will of course have the biggest impact of the red-shirt freshmen.  He will start from day one.  We would not be shocked to see all of the defensive true freshmen red-shirt because of depth.

Question -Are they going to open the Valley to allow people to watch the UGA game?

TCI – We know that is under consideration.  We have not heard a final answer on that front.
Question – How is Trevion Thompson doing at camp? Clearly he did not enroll early so he has much catching up to do but wondering if you have some insight there.

TCI – Trevion has played well in camp.  He is a little behind the other three because they were here for the spring.  Thompson is a very talented receiver.  Dabo and coach Morris have said all four freshmen could play.  Thompson is the most likely to red-shirt in our opinion.

Question – My qustion is directed at the TCI staff. During your careers who has been your farvorite person to interview?

TCI – This is a great question.  We all probably have a different reason why we prefer certain players for interviews.

Hale – Tajh Boyd and Dwayne Allen

Robert – Tajh Boyd, CJ Spiller, Ben Boulware, Kyle Parker, Ricky Sapp

Will – Michael Palmer, CJ Spiller

Ed – James Davis, Charlie Whitehurst, Dustin Fry, Kyle Young, Tyler Grisham, Curtis Baham

Qualk – Rendrick Taylor
