Are we surprised that Clemson’s defense once again owned a scrimmage this summer?
Not really, they should have.
Three times in camp the Tigers have scrimmaged—whether in game-like situations or in certain circumstances—and all three times the defense dominated the offense. When a team like Clemson returns seven starters on defense, including everyone across the defensive front and a potential All-American at linebacker, you expect them to own the scrimmages.
The offense is only returning four starters and three of them are on the offensive line. With a first-year starter at quarterback as well as new starters at wide receiver and running back, why would anyone think the offense at this point should get the best of the defense? If that was the case would you not have more concern about the 2014 season than you already do?
