2017 Intro: Davondre Robinson

Lake Marion High School head coach Chris Carter thinks both of his starting safeties have the potential to play D-1 ball.

One of his starting cornerbacks, junior four-star (Scout) James Valdez, has offers from schools in the ACC and SEC. Junior free safety Steven Drayton and sophomore strong safety Davondre “Tank” Robinson could soon vault into similar consideration.

Robinson split time at quarterback last season with junior Deriante Jenkins, who’s since moved to Florida, so he’ll get plenty of run on both sides of the ball this fall.

As a freshman, Robinson completed 27 of 43 passes for 452 yards with four touchdowns. He also rushed 26 times for 313 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Robinson had 32 tackles and an interception.

During last week’s interview at Lake Marion with TheClemsonInsider.com, Robinson described himself as a “dual-threat” quarterback and a “hard-hitting” safety.

“It’s hard to say at this point, but I’m getting a lot of publicity at both,” Robinson said, when asked which side of the ball he’s better on.

Robinson worked out at quarterback during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp earlier this summer.

“That was good. I’ve been learning a lot of new things that I didn’t know,” Robinson said.

His first visit to Clemson was for a basketball camp.

“It’s real nice. I like it,” he said of the campus.

In addition to the Clemson football camp, UNC, N.C. State and Georgia Tech hosted Robinson for camp this summer. He worked out at quarterback at N.C. State and Georgia Tech, too. Offered by Larry Fedora in May, UNC had Robinson working out at safety during camp.
