Clemson noon games against instate FCS opponents normally don’t attract a bunch of big-time prospects.
But a few will be on hand for Saturday’s home opener against South Carolina State.
Teammates Zerrick Cooper (2016 quarterback) and Jordan Griffin (2016 defensive back) are among those scheduled to visit. It will be Cooper’s fourth trip of the year to Clemson. No. 1 was in the spring for a Junior Day. Two and three were during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. Cooper was up from Jonesboro, Georgia as a first day participant before returning later in the week with his parents.
Cooper tore his ACL a couple of weeks ago and will miss his entire junior season. Prior to the injury, Clemson, Kentucky, Ohio State, Miami, Ole Miss, Nebraska, N.C. State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Clemson, Kentucky, N.C. State and Ole Miss have also offered Griffin. Saturday will be his first trip to Tigertown.
They’ll be joined by both of their parents and a coach.
Bryan Edwards, a 2016 wide receiver, will also have his parents with him on Saturday. The Conway four-star has been to Clemson plenty of times over the last few years and it would appear that the Tigers hold an edge over the rest of the field, which includes South Carolina, Florida and Virginia Tech. He’s interested in Georgia, but hasn’t received an offer from the Dawgs.
The best football guest from Georgia will be 2016 linebacker Tre Lamar, who will also have his parents with him. Lamar is the No. 25 outside linebacker in the country, according to Scout. 247 rates him as the No. 9 inside linebacker. Rivals lists him as the seventh-best outside linebacker.
Lamar’s last visit to Clemson was just a few weeks ago, to watch the Tigers during preseason camp. Alabama presents the biggest challenge to Clemson. In addition to Michigan State, several other ACC and SEC programs have also offered.
Seth Beer, the highly-rated outfielder from Georgia’s Lambert High School, will be the top baseball prospect in town. Earlier this week, TheClemsonInsider posted a significant update on him — LINK.
The Clemson basketball staff will host several unofficial guests. At this point, it would appear that none of those visitors are on the recruiting radar.
