Asheville High School offensive lineman Pete Leota was back in Clemson on Saturday for the Tigers’ romp over S.C. State.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound junior had already visited Clemson twice this year. Trip No. 1 was in April for the spring game. The second stop was two months later — a one-day appearance at the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.
“I liked it. It was cool,” Leota said of Saturday’s game, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider.
“I like the fan base. There were a lot of fans.”
That morning, he spoke with defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.
“He was talking about how his son plays jayvee for Daniel…we travelled all the way down there to play them in a scrimmage and he said that he heard that we beat them. They’re a pretty good team,” Leota said.
Wake Forest will have Leota on campus later this month for the Army game.
In addition to his contact with the Demon Deacons, Leota also hears from Florida State, Virginia Tech and N.C. State. Boston College offered last month.
Leota plays right tackle for Asheville, but he’ll probably play inside at the next level.
“My coach said my probable position in college will be right guard,” he said.
