Something to think about

After picking up a Clemson offer and watching his first game in Death Valley, John Simpson might be re-evaluating where his allegiances stand.

The junior guard from Fort Dorchester visited Clemson on Saturday for the Tigers’ 41-0 win over N.C. State.

“I grew up a Carolina fan,” Simpson told TheClemsonInsider on Saturday night. “But, after today, you know — I don’t know.”

Word of the Clemson offer was passed his way before the game.

“I was in a meeting with coach (Dabo) Swinney and we were talking. After the meeting, I met with coach (Robbie) Caldwell in the hall,” Simpson said. “When I was in the meeting with coach Swinney, he said, ‘We want you here.’ But I didn’t know if it was an offer or not.

“Coach Caldwell was like, ‘Did coach Swinney tell you that you have an offer yet?’ I was kind of surprised.”

Simpson was impressed with what transpired on the field shortly thereafter.

“It was amazing…the quarterback, I could picture myself blocking for him, because he’s a true freshman,” Simpson said. “I could see myself blocking for him one day.”

Saturday’s visit certainly made that a distinct possibility.

“Everyone was like a family. They treat you like you’re one of them,” Simpson said. “Even though I didn’t commit to them yet, it seems like I did, because they treat you like family there.”

So far this season, Simpson has been to South Carolina for the Texas A&M and Georgia games.

“I’m planning on coming back to Clemson, probably for the Carolina game, but I’m probably going to come back to one sooner,” he said.

In addition to the offers from Clemson and South Carolina, Simpson receives mail from Florida State, LSU, East Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
