Saturday was the first visit to Clemson for Rose High School (Greenville, North Carolina) junior wide receiver Cornell Powell.
On Sunday afternoon, he spoke with TheClemsonInsider about trip No. 1 to Tigertown.
“It was great. It was very exciting. It was fun,” Powell said.
He added, “I toured the campus, then went in the locker room with the players…it was fun.”
Several coaches spoke with Powell, including his recruiter of record, defensive backs coach Mike Reed, and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott.
“They were just very genuine,” Powell said. “They were cool. It was just normal conversations.”
Reed serves as Powell’s primary recruiter to Clemson, but Scott has taken on a proactive role in his recruitment.
“He actually came to our game two Fridays ago, so our relationship is pretty good,” Powell said.
Powell also enjoyed the scenery around the Clemson campus.
“It was beautiful. The campus is beautiful and the girls are amazing,” he said.
Earlier this fall, Wake Forest, N.C. State and UNC had Powell on campus for game day visits. All three have offered, so have Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Virginia.
Does Powell have any favorites?
“No, but Clemson is definitely high on my list,” he said.
So far this season, Powell 44 catches for 784 yards with 10 touchdowns.
According to Scout, he is the a four-star prospect and the No. 50 wide receiver in the class of 2016.
