Freshman sensation sees Clemson

Deshaun Watson isn’t the only freshman quarterback who’s made waves in the Palmetto State this fall.

Dakereon Joyner is making waves down in the Lowcountry at Fort Dorchester High School. The Clemson coaching staff has taken notice. Joyner was in town as a football guest for the N.C. State and UNC games.

“I felt really comfortable up there. It felt like home,” he said.

TheClemsonInsider caught up with Joyner after the UNC game.

“Just getting to meet Deshaun Watson and my mom getting to meet coach (Tony) Elliott,” he said, when asked what stood out about that trip.

Joyner went into detail about his experience at the N.C. State game.

“For it being my first time, I really enjoyed it,” he said. “I didn’t expect it to be how it was at USC. It was a totally different atmosphere.”

What are the differences between Clemson and South Carolina?

“Just the fans and the community, it’s not like a city area. It’s more of a rural area.”

Joyner also liked the message he got from the Clemson coaches.

“They just really push my education more than anything,” he said. “I mean, they aren’t worried about football. Education, without education, you don’t have anything.”

The 6-1, 170-pound 14-year-old prospect was impressed with what he saw from Watson during his two visits.

“I mean, the kid is a freak. You can’t say much about him. He’s really humble, really calm about the situation,” Joyner said. “He isn’t a big, rowdy kind of guy.”

South Carolina, which offered over the summer, remains as his only offer.
