Tuesday was a busy day for Juwuan Briscoe, who picked up offers from two of the most tradition-rich programs in all of college football: Ohio State and Penn State.
TheClemsonInsider spoke with the Stone High School (Waldorf, Maryland) senior on Wednesday night.
“It wasn’t really a surprise,” he said of the new offers, “But I haven’t really been communicating with them that much.
“They came to a couple of my games to see me. They liked me and they pulled the trigger.”
For Briscoe, “it means a lot” to have offers from the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions.
“I mean, they just don’t offer anybody,” he said. “It lets me know I’m doing my job on the field.”
Before committing to Clemson in May, Briscoe held offers from Rutgers, West Virginia, Maryland and N.C. State.
Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed maintains a strong line of communication with Briscoe, who committed to the Tigers while on an unofficial visit.
“It’s still the same,” Briscoe said. “No love lost. I still love Clemson. I still love coach Reed. I love the whole staff.
“Nothing has changed, I just got offered.”
Ohio State and Penn State both offered Briscoe as a cornerback, the position he’s committed to play at Clemson. When asked if he’ll pay a visit to either of the two schools, Briscoe was non-committal.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I’m not too worried about that right now.”
Briscoe does have plans to be in Clemson later this season for the South Carolina game. Even though he’s not graduating in December, Briscoe intends to use that as his official visit weekend.
It will also be the first game he’s attended in Death Valley.
“I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere of the game,” Briscoe said. “I just want to see how the defense plays, I want to see them out there balling, punishing the other team.”
Starting at both running back and cornerback for Stone this season, Briscoe rushed 15 times for 127 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 33-6 win over Northern. On defense, he had a pair of tackles and a pick-6.
“We’re 5-1 right now. We’re doing pretty well, we had a little slip up in our first game,” Briscoe said. “As far as me, I’m doing my job, making plays when I need to make plays.”
