Encouraging signs from Dye

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said after practice Wednesday that he is seeing some encouraging signs from running back Tyshon Dye in practice.

The Clemson running back started to get some work in practice last week and has been wearing a green jersey as he tries to get back in football shape. The redshirt freshman missed all of the 2013 season while recovering from back surgery, and then a week before spring practice was set to begin, he tore his Achilles heel.

The Tigers (4-2, 3-1 ACC) were hoping to get the 5-foot-11, 220-pound runner back at some point this season. It is now starting to look more and more like that might be an option.

“I’m getting encouraged so I know he is encouraged. That is a positive,” Swinney said.

Gore is bouncing back nicely. Swinney says offensive tackle Joe Gore has looked good in practice this week. Gore is still listed as questionable for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. game at Boston College.

“We did not do any good-on-good with him, we held him out of that,” Swinney said. “He just looks like he feels better. I knew something was not right with him. I just didn’t know – he just was not the same guy I saw in camp. So I think his mentality is back to what it was and I think a lot of it again is because he is healthy.”

Steward to play. Linebacker Tony Steward will play on Saturday. He took most of the reps on Wednesday after being limited a little bit on Monday and Tuesday.

“He was full go today,” Swinney said. “He will be ready to roll.”

Two players are out. Defensive back Martin Jenkins and wide receiver Charone Peake have both been ruled out for Saturday’s game. Jenkins is out with a sprained foot and Peake is still coming back from a scope on his knee last week.

Jenkins and Peake have missed the last three games.
