Clemson leads BC, 10-7, at the break

Clemson took a 10-7 lead into the locker room as Ammon Lakip made a 23-yard kick as time expired. That capped a 12-play, 69-yard drive that took the last 3:21 off the clock. Quarterback Stoudt went 5-7 and converted a third down with his feet thanks to a 13-yard scramble to set up the field goal.

Stoudt ended the half 14 of 19 for 144 yards in the opening half as he guided the Tigers to 10 second quarter points. Clemson had 151 total yards in the second quarter on a Boston College defense that ranks eighth in the country.

Clemson took a 7-0 lead with 11:42 to go in the half, when running back Wayne Gallman swept off the left side for a 17-yard touchdown. That completed a 4-play, 50-yard drive that took 1:21 off the clock.

In both scoring drives, Stoudt completed big passes to Mike Williams, Adam Humphries, Jordan Leggett and Jay Jay McCullough. On the final drive he hit Humphries for 17 yards on third-and-long, then followed with a 21-yard pass to Leggett and the hit McCullough with a 10-yard pass on another third down.

He followed that with his 18-yard scamper to set up Lakip’s field goal.

On the touchdown drive, Stoudt hit Williams with a 19-yard pass and then found Artavis Scott for 15 yards.

The Clemson defense also did its part. They held the Eagles to 68 total yards and quarterback Tyler Murphy had two yards rushing. BC’s dominating running game, which was fourth in the nation coming into the game, finished the first half with 45 yards rushing on 18 carries.

Boston College’s touchdown came on a 26-yard pass play from Murphy to running back Sherman Alston with 7:29 to play in the half.
