Earlier this month, Garrett Williams returned to Clemson for his first game in Death Valley since last season’s opener against Georgia.
Williams was one of several Clemson commitments to visit for the Louisville game. A few days later, TheClemsonInsider caught up with the four-star (Rivals) senior tight end from Orlando-First Academy.
“It was awesome. The fans are crazy. The environment was just unreal and it was really exciting to watch them get a team win,” Williams said. “I liked being in the locker room, seeing the guys happy and coach (Dabo) Swinney pumped up about the win. It was really cool.”
While on campus, he spent time talking with the Clemson coaches.
“At this point, we know each other really well. I know everything I’m going to be doing when I get there, because we’ve talked about it so many times,” Williams said.
He also got to know J.C. Chalk, the 2016 tight end from Argyle, Texas, who’s also committed to the Tigers.
“The coaches have been telling me for a long time that J.C. and I are really similar personalities and everything,” Williams said. “I really enjoyed getting to hang out with him and his family. He has a great family, very similar to mine.
“I really liked getting to hang out with him. I thought it was a really cool time getting to know him. We spent a lot of time with each other when we were up there. I think we’re going to be good friends.”
In January, Williams will enroll at Clemson.
“It’s really exciting. I feel like I’m not ready right now, but I feel like when the time comes, I’ll be really ready to get up there, start that chapter of my life,” he said. “I’m really excited for that opportunity to get up there and start that new chapter.
“I think it’s going to be awesome. Clemson is an amazing place, so it’s going to be an awesome four years.”
Williams has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-American game.
